Product operations

Until recently, most lasers treated the skin with high power levels and macroscopic spots. The problem with this approach is that healthy tissue is also damaged. In addition, there was no technological intelligence for controlling the amount of thermal injury to the skin.

Reliant’s approach is based on the theory of "Fractional Photothermolysis", developed by Drs. Rox Anderson and Dieter Manstein of Harvard's Wellman Laboratories in collaboration with Dr. Scott Herron and Len DeBenedictis, of Reliant Technologies.

Partially treating the skin (=Fractional) with patterns of microscopic laser spots, each 70 to 100 µm in diameter, results in a unique wound healing process, as each laser spot is surrounded by healthy tissue. Many of the stem cells and melanocytes in the papillary dermis are spared. Fractional wound healing results in both rapid re-epithelisation as well as collagen re-modelling.

The Fraxel 1550 has been developed by Reliant Technologies – a team of prominent laser scientists, clinicians and biomedical engineers. Fraxel 1550 combines patented optical technology with unique software.

the combination of one the one hand, consistent dosage control with optimised spot size for each energy setting, with on the other hand, variable spot density, allows the operator to adjust both the depth (to 1.4mm) as well as the aggressiveness of the treatment to the patient and indication. This technological edge provides the patient with the best option for non-invasive treatment of indications ranging from mild sun damage to serious acne scars.

Q&A

What makes the Fraxel superior to its competitors?

Fraxel differentiates itself from all other competitors that work with the stamp principle (fixed spot size and density) through the use of the intelligent scanning system with variable spot size. The result is safe and natural results for patients are reproduced.

Can fraxel treatment be applied to all skin types?

Yes! The chromophore for the 1550nm wavelength of the fraxel laser is water. This means all skin types can be treated. With good sun protection, treatments can be performed all year round.

Why is it important to be able to treat deeply?

For indications such as acne scars, surgical scars and deeper wrinkles, it is important that as much new collagen is formed as possible. Fraxel is the only one on the market that can go to 1.4mm deep, thanks to the variable spot size.

Can the fraxel treatment be performed by a nurse, skin therapist or beauty specialist?

The treatment can be performed by non-medical practitioners as long as they have had adequate training and a doctor supervises the treatment (determination of the indication and treatment parameters). The ergonomic roller tips and scanning system ensure the treatment is fast and easy.
